- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS -

What sort of price should we expect to pay?

This is obviously an important question, but a difficult one to answer without more information. What we can tell you is that most commissions fall into the $1 900 USD / R19 000 RSA – $3 900 USD / R39 000 RSA category. Naturally they can go somewhat lower or higher than that. If you request a commission, under normal circumstances Lené will offer you 3 size options which will cover the price spread quoted above.

Our Evoque Collection prints are designed specifically to provide an alternative option under $1 000 USD / R10 000. These of course cannot be customized as commissioned works can be.

What kind of images can Lené paint?

She can paint most any image. Commissioned works in the past have included portraits of people both living and passed, prize bulls, breeder's stallions and spiritual visions. As long as an image can be made of what you are looking for, she will probably be able to paint it.

What kind of images won't Lené paint?

Lené does not paint images which conflict with her beliefs, she does not paint nudes and she does not paint in styles which imitate other artists.

How long does it take to complete a commissioned work?

This depends on various factors. The fastest commission ever completed was a portrait commissioned by a man the day after his mother passed away. He was very close to her and wanted the piece to honor her memory at the funeral. The work was completed in 3 days. Even with the extreme pressure of the deadline it turned out to be an exceptional piece. The Lord's hand must have helped make that happen. Lené's detailed style typically takes much more time than that, the size and complexity of the work will determine how much more. Factors like woodwork, metal work, custom made canvases and the image itself all affect completion times. Once you have a greed on the piece you are looking for Lené will be able to give you a pretty accurate estimate of the time needed. In general the process will be between 30 and 90 days.

What process is involved in making an oil painting?

The process of making an Original Oil Painting is lengthy and work intensive. It begins with initial conceptualization. Once Lené has a mental image she goes about finding a visual solution. This can include costume design, customized canvases, sourcing models, materials and more. Once she has pieced together exactly what the final image will look like, she sources her materials, organizes photo shoots and does all the preparatory work. Then comes the meticulous hand painting of every last minute detail, using layers and layers of oil paint to build up the final image. Once the painting phase is done comes the final construction, mounting or framing in a way which enhances the whole image. No two of the same are ever made and somehow original pieces also seem to carry the more powerful emotion in them.

- THE COMMISSION PROCESS -

Step 1:

Fill out the form below with as much detail as possible. In reply Lené will contact you directly.

Step 2:

Should you agree to continue with the process, Lené will create one or more proposal images based on your briefing. This will include various size options for the final work and a quote with at least 3 price options (depending on the desired final size).

Please note: In exceptional cases where models need to be hired, costumes made and photo shoots arranged before the proposal image can be completed, you will be quoted a small fee to cover these proposal costs.

Step 3:

Once you have agreed to the image which will be painted, the size, price, and delivery date, you will be asked to make a non-refundable 50% deposit. On receipt of this payment Lené will proceed with the painting. You will be updated as to her progress from time to time.

Step 4:

On completion of the work you will be invited to see if the final piece meets your approval. Should you not be able to physically inspect the work, photographs will be e-mailed to you. Once you are happy, you will be required to pay the remaining 50%. Delivery, courier or shipping arrangements will then be made to send the piece to your delivery address.
